I don't like and never have liked RTV for a gasket, particularly when people goop on this stuff over a cork gasket. It's almost a guaranteed leak when used like that. It isn't a gasket cement, and no cork or paper gasket ever needs any type of sealer or goop on it anyway, except maybe a spot of contact cement to hold it in place till assembly.
