High iron ore can only be obtained by players of a certain level (1525) or with a certain blacksmithing skill (one point into the first passive). Most players have maxed out blacksmithing so they get rubedite, or they haven't worked on it at all so they get iron. To know if your price is fair, look at other ores (except rubedite).

The only right implementation from ZOS on this would have been to add completely new node spawn points for this new resource, which they could make as common or rare as they like. Instead they went the incredibly daft and lazy route of simply turning X% of their ore nodes into jewelry nodes instead.

Incorrect. Half of nodes are based on character/champion level, half of nodes are based on skill point investment in the first crafting passive for that line. A level 50 character with 10/10 in the metalworking passive on an account with >= 160 champion points will always see rubedite ore.

From what I understand Rubedite was mostly found in High Rock before the One Tamriel patch for ESO. The Royal Guard armor seen in the Tribunal expansion for Morrowind is likely made from Rubedite, which makes sense considering King Helseth was originally from High Rock and lived there for most of his life.

Dreugh Wax sells for 3,000+ gold per Wax and you need 8 to improve a piece of gear; that's 24,000+ gold to improve one piece of gear. Still, even though it's expensive, I agree that buying it is the best way. Refining raw materials and relying on chance won't net you a lot of Wax unless you refine stacks and stacks.

High iron ore (that makes steel ingots) is found in Stormhaven and lower level part of Rivenspire. Orichalcum is found in Stormhaven (rare), Rivenspire and the lower levels of Alik'r Desert. The base formula is as that the levels you can create gear for are also the levels of the area you can find the ingredients.

I personally keep all my mats since I have a couple characters, but if you aren't keeping your other mats (like ancestor silk) you may be able able to find ppl in area chat to trade ancestor silk, rubedite ore, or ruby ash for rubedo leather as well. I have refined thousands upon thousands of various ore, but the larger batches have mainly been either rubedite or iron. I have done it in a batch of about 15,000 all at once as well as just 4,000 or 2,000 or even just 400 and my long term rate is about 5 tempers for every 1000 refined which is the .5% that Mallagar states.

False. You have higher chances of Rubedite ore, and will see it more often in different zones, but you can easily find iron or high iron too. Yes I just reached 160 cp. I don't have materials because I was a vet level 7 pve player and I was not in the area where voidstone or rubedite were. I've been crafting sets for other players using my materials and helping others level up starter characters in the game. Rubedite ore is 20k per 200, and I'm not a sorcerer, I'm a healer.

In most instances, refining will get you more in value than selling. Where it's better to sell the raw is platinum dust, rubedite ore, ruby ash, and some of the level 1 mats.
